We are seeking a talented and motivated Embedded Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Farnborough. Working within a small, multidisciplinary space technology company, you will collaborate closely with systems, electronics, and software engineers to develop innovative products and technologies for space and related applications.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept and design through development, integration, testing, and deployment. Key Responsibilities:

• • Design, develop and maintain embedded software for space and high-reliability applications.
•  
  • Develop firmware for ARM-based microcontrollers, particularly the STM32 family.
•  
  • Implement and maintain software running on Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
•  
  • Work closely with electronics engineers to integrate software with custom hardware platforms.
•  
  • Support system integration, verification, validation, and testing activities.
•  
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to software architecture and design decisions.
•  
  • Develop technical documentation in accordance with project and quality requirements.
•  
  • Assist with troubleshooting and root cause analysis during development and testing.
•  
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of software development processes and tools.

KEY SKILLS

Essential:

• • 5 years professional experience developing embedded software in a commercial environment.
•  
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems development.
•  
  • Hands-on experience with STM32 microcontrollers.
•  
  • Experience developing software using an RTOS (e.g., FreeRTOS).
•  
  • Good understanding of embedded software architecture and low-level hardware interactions.
•  
  • Experience with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN or Ethernet.
•  
  • Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git.
•  
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
•  
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
•  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable:

• • Previous experience within the space sector, aerospace, defence or other high-reliability industries.
•  
  • Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems, onboard software, or satellite communications.
•  
  • Experience with software verification and validation practices.
•  
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux environments.
•  
  • Understanding of model-based development or systems engineering approaches.
•  
  • Exposure to safety-critical or mission-critical software development.
• 
  
  • Experience with automated testing and continuous integration tools.
